The traineeships prove to be an invaluable resource to the Melbourne Football Club with many of its past trainees moving into leadership positions once they complete. ‘We chose to take on trainees because we have had huge success with AFL SportsReady in the past. In fact some of our managers started out as trainees like our Media Manager Matt Burgan,’ said Georgia Hillman, Merchandise Manager at Melbourne Football Club.

‘We know we can trust AFL SportsReady to provide us with quality trainees who are willing to help out in every way possible and work at the club with enthusiasm and passion. Not to mention our CEO Peter Jackson was the AFL SportsReady Chairman,’ she continued.

Through the traineeship program the Melbourne Football Club is able to train the person within their work environment and teach them the skills they require to succeed in the organisation.

‘I think the reason why trainees prove to be so successful is because they are moulded to perfectly suit the company or organisation. They are taught skills and processes from their supervisors and mentors and therefore they become motivated and loyal workers,’ explained Ms Hillman.

Ms Hillman is currently supervising trainee Ashley Webster who is working in the merchandise department and studying a Certificate III in Business.

‘Our recent trainee has once again delivered! The moment I met her she brightened up the work place with her bubbly personality and bright big smile. She has been here now for almost two years. If she wasn’t off to university next year we would keep her forever.’
