The Finals Football Breakfast

On Thursday the 8th of September, over 130 of AFL SportsReady's Host Employers, Partners and Supporters had the pleasure of attending a breakfast to launch the Cross Cultural Awareness Resource, held in The Pavilion at the Adelaide Oval.

Former Richmond Football Club Star, Nathan Bower, was the MC for the breakfast who did a wonderful job interviewing two of the young men featured on the DVD - they were AFL SportsReady Trainees, Duane Von Senden (SANFL) and Matthew Stokes (Adelaide Zoo).

The morning also included Guest Speaker and one of the founders of AFL SportsReady, Kevin Sheedy. Kevin proved to be a very entertaining speaker and is a great advocate of indigenous players and was the perfect person to help launch the DVD.

To end the breakfast, Kevin Sheedy auctioned 2 double passes to the Finals Showdown between the Adelaide Crows and Port Power- both going for $250 each, with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics provide a year round sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability.

We wish to thank all those who attended and supported the event. We hope to make the Finals Breakfast an annual event and hope to see an even greater turn out next year.

School Based New Apprenticeships

A School Based New Apprenticeship (SBNA) involves 8 hours of on-the-job training per week. Not only is this a cost effective way to run your business, but it is a great opportunity for a young person to gain quality experience in the Sport and Recreation Industry.

A traineeship usually lasts 2 years, with the trainee achieving a Certificate II in Sport & Recreation whilst they are completing their SACE.

There is an extensive list of trainees that you can choose from, so you get the right person for the job, and because AFL SportsReady is the employer we will handle all the administration, pay wages and manage all the industrial matters.

For an enthusiastic young person who is prepared to learn Your Business Your Way please contact Rebecca Avery on 08 8354 1116.

AFL Recreational Football

AFL Recreational Football has been developed to provide an opportunity for everyone and anyone - no matter what the ability of the individual. The game uses similar skills that are involved in Australian Rules Football with slight modifications to get all the players involved.

The field is 100 metres long and divided into sections and the ball must be handled in each sub-division, to increase participation. The game consists of 2 x 20 minute halves with a 5 minute break. Teams are mixed with at least 3 girls in each team.

AFL Recreational Football would be ideal for primary and secondary students.

If you would like more information or would like a game pack, please contact Josh Vanderloo at the SANFL.
