About AFL Sportsready

AFL SportsReady Ltd is a not for profit employment and training organisation dedicated to sourcing and facilitating meaningful employment and training for:

  1. Students in their final years of school hoping to get a foot in the door of the sports and sports related industries - Australian School Based Apprenticeships
  2. Male and female school leavers wishing to work in the sports and sports related industries - See AFL SportsReady Traineeships
  3. Indigenous Australians wishing to work in the sports and leisure industry- See Indigenous Employment Program

Since 1995, AFL SportsReady has facilitated employment traineeships and training for over 4,000 school leavers in a wide range of sporting organisations - including governing bodies, clubs and retail outlets.

The AFL SportsReady program was initially conceived by AFL legend Kevin Sheedy and funded by the Australian Football League to provide listed football players an entry into the workforce, primarily in the sports industry.

In essence, players were assisted to find jobs and most of their salaries and all employer costs (super etc) were subsidised by the AFL and Federal Government.

These days, despite a strong logo presence of the AFL, AFL SportsReady traineeships are open to all young male and female school leavers in any sport whatsoever (and in any industry). The AFL and Federal government subsidise the wage and other employer costs while administration is handled by AFL SportsReady.
